Data Relay campaigns are used by clients that want all inbound SMS messages preceded by a particular keyword to be posted to their own message handling application via the XML Data Feed feature.

For example, you might have an application which will return an SMS message with local, real-time weather information based on zip code. You could set up your XML Data Feed to point to your weather application, and then create a Data Relay keyword called WEATHER which is linked to your XML Data Feed. Once you have done that, if an end-user texted:

WEATHER 90069

The SMS message above would post via XML to the XML Data Feed you linked to the WEATHER keyword, and your application could process the real-time weather information for the 90069 area code. If you are an InstaConnect API client, your application could then send a return SMS message with the real-time data.

Keyword: If an end-user texts the keyword to the short code, or a string preceded by the keyword, the inbound SMS data will be posted to your XML Data Feed registered to the keyword.

Registered XML Data Feed: Select the XML Data Feed that you have registered and tested already. Please see the XML Data Feed User’s Guide for more information on setting up an XML Data Feed. Please note that all messages to the short code with the keyword or preceded by the keyword will be posted via XML to the XML Data Feed script you select from this drop-down menu.
